Michelle Lessing

Head Director

Michelle Lessing is the Director of Bands at Frenship Memorial High School in Lubbock, Texas. Ms. Lessing joined the Frenship community in the fall of 2022 and is thrilled to continue serving such an incredible team of students, teachers, parents, and administrators.

Ms. Lessing is from Abilene, TX, where she served the students and community of Abilene High School as the Assistant Band Director. During her nine years, she helped refine the traditions of excellence and team teaching to steadily grow the program to over 220 members. In the fall of 2017, she began leading the students of Abilene Wylie High School as the Director of Bands. During her tenure with the WHS Band Program, she helped transition students from 4A to 5A classifications, introduce live instrumental groups for musicals, and establish wide-spread community events to showcase student talent through the Christmas Drive-Thru Concert, Big Country Clarinet Choir Day, and multiple district events.

Ms. Lessing holds Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from Texas Tech University with Texas State Board of Education Certification in All-Level Music. She studied clarinet with Dr. David Shea and performed with the TTU Symphonic Band, the Goin' Band from Raiderland, and the TTU Clarinet Choir.

Ms. Lessing is an active member of TMEA and enjoys performing. Her performances include showcases at the TMEA convention in San Antonio, TX, with the Abilene Clarinet Quartet, conducting high school musicals, and playing clarinet for church orchestras and musicals.

In her spare time, you can find Michelle enjoying time with her sister and dog, camping, paddle boarding, doing yoga, archery, and bouldering.
